5d, 10d nails? the term "Penny" in regards to nails is said to have originated in England. it may have referred to the cost of different size nails, the "d" being the British symbol for Penny. Another theory is nails were categorized by weight (by the thousand), "d" at one time was the abbreviation for a pound.
